You Are Not Buying a Boat!

As hard as this is for me to say, nobody needs a boat…

A boat is the ultimate luxury – totally unnecessary and a complete indulgence.

BUT, if you’re going about it the right way, you’re not buying a boat…

You’re buying a way of life.

You’re buying a sense of adventure.

You’re buying more time with your kids and your family.

You’re buying into keeping your teenagers a part of your family for longer, because those families that play together stay together.

You’re buying peace and relaxation.

You’re buying an escape from the grind of everyday life.

You’re buying freedom.

You’re buying into a community of like-minded friends.

You’re buying a feeling.

You’re buying happiness!

…My God. It sounds good when it’s put like that, doesn’t it?! (As an aside you should keep that spiel up your sleeve for convincing a reluctant other half!).

But, as cheesy as all that sounds, it’s the truth…. Boating really can be all that and more!

The actual boat itself is a means to an end, and the details are largely irrelevant.

Yes, it has to be reliable. Yes, it has to be safe. Yes, it has to be able to allow you to do the things on the water that you want to do.

But don’t make the mistake of getting hung up on technical details and features lists and the other minutiae that bog us down when making decisions in the real world.

When it comes to looking for a boat, the better conversation to have is about what outcome you want. Who do you want to spend more time with? What do you all enjoy doing? What feelings do you want to experience on your boat? Those are the important questions. Those are the questions I would ask you. And it’s the answers to those questions that will help you to buy a boat that really makes you happy.
