With standard cataract surgery, an intraocular lens implant (IOL) is placed in the capsular bag that the cataract was removed from. At times, this is not possible and the IOL must be placed in an alternate location. Watch this episode of A State of Sight with Isaac Porter, MD to learn more about speciality lens implants.

This includes anterior chamber IOLs, iris sutured lenses, and scleral fixated lenses. Patients with complicated cataract surgery or dislocated IOLs may need these techniques.
