On Thursday, October 26, 2023, Darien Library, the Garden Club of Darien and Barrett Bookstore, were proud to present author, Lindsey Taylor, who discussed her new, and gorgeous book, "Art in Flower: Finding Inspiration in Art and Nature."

The book introduces readers to a unique practice that combines art and flowers—ultimately offering a new way to look at the natural world. Based on her popular and long-running Wall Street Journal column, "Flower School," floral and garden designer Lindsey Taylor translates the palettes, compositions, brushstrokes, and mood of works of art into floral arrangements, from the vibrant orange and yellow impasto of a Van Gogh to the monumentality and rusted but velvety-looking surfaces of a Serra sculpture.

Organized by season, "Art in Flower" features forty works by an extraordinary group of artists across a diverse range of mediums, periods, and styles, from eighteenth-century Indian paintings and nineteenth-century Japanese prints to American landscapes, Impressionist masterpieces, and contemporary works. In short texts accompanying each artwork-floral arrangement pair, Taylor walks readers through her process of interpreting the art with flowers and foliage. The stunning but achievable results are then revealed, alongside a list of the flowers used to make the arrangement.

Beautifully illustrated, the book dedicates a whole page to each image allowing for deeper reflection. Artists represented include Frank Stella, Frida Kahlo, Giovanni Bellini, Georgia O’Keeffe, Alice Neel, Salman Toor, Kerry James Marshall, and Julie Mehretu, to name a few. Martha Stewart calls this book "a work of art in itself." And, Glenn Lowry, the director of The Museum of Modern Art states that the book is ".... engaging as it is inspiring." Come see for yourself the buzz this title is getting!
