"Live From the Audience," presented by Hattiloo Theatre, is a once-a-month video series with the latest in Black theater news and conversations with Black theater professionals.

This month we are talking with the director of Hattiloo's upcoming production of Father Comes Home from The Wars (Parts, 1,2,&3), Garry Yates.

Garry Yates is a native Memphian, an actor, educator, and stage director. A member of the Actors Equity Association, Screen Actors Guild, and an Associate Member of the Director and Choreographers Society. His extended credits include Off-Off-Broadway theatre, daytime dramas to recognized sitcoms. He has taught at several institutions in California and Atlanta. He is currently an associate professor of the Theatre and Mass Media Arts at Clark Atlanta University. Directing credits include collegiate and regional theatre – the Alliance Theatre, Metro Stage, Theatrical Outfit, and Horizon Theatre, the Hattiloo Theatre and other theatre companies directing social issues play. He received a Master of Fine Arts in acting from Indiana University – Bloomington. Aside from acting, and directing, he works as a dialect coach and he also has experience with drama therapy. It is a privilege working again with Hattiloo Theatre. This makes his second show with Hattiloo Theatre. It is a privilege to be a part of the Memphis theatre scene
