Kali Begum is an amazing game that can be played with family or friends. All you need is a deck of cards and more than 3 people to play! Once you learn to play, it is lot of fun and you will feel like playing it endlessly for hours together. Watch the video to learn how to play this amazing game. This game is a very good way to pass time during the lockdown period.

How to play: As you know, 1 deck is divided into 4 suits -Spades, Hearts, Diamond and Clubs also known as Hukum, Paan, Eat and Chidi. In this game, each of the 13 laal pan or heart cards carry 1 point. The kali begum or queen of spades carries 12 points. All other cards have no points. Hence, the 13 heart cards and the black queen make a total of 25 points.

The objective of the game is to gather least points.

13 cards are randomly distributed to each player. There are no partners in the game, and players must not show their cards to others. Like any other card game, the players make hands. The hand goes to whoever plays the highest card and they play the next turn. As the game goes on, you must avoid getting laal pan or the black queen in your hand. If you make no hands during a whole round, you score -5 points! At the end of all the rounds, the person with the lowest total wins the game!!

We maintain a score card to record each player’s score at the end of each round. You can continue playing as many rounds of the game as you wish, say 5 or 10 rounds.

At the end we check the total score of each player and the one with the least score wins the game.

Now that you have learnt the basics, let us check how to play this game with more than 4 people: Cards have to be removed to make them divisible by the number of players. For example, with 5 players, 2 cards can be removed from the deck i.e. the 2 of clubs and the 2 of diamonds to make a deck of 50 cards. The same logic is for 6 or 7. If there are too many players, 2 decks of cards can be mixed to double the fun!

Hope you liked and enjoyed learning the game. Please don’t forget to like, share and subscribe.
