The 5th Sindh Literature Festival was inaugurated by Syed Sardar Ali Shah, the Provincial Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities and Archives accompanied with Muhammad Ahmed Shah, President Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi, Sindh, Naseer Gopang, the founder of Sindh Literature Festival and Zohaib Kaka, the Founding Member of SLF. The ceremony was also attended by Abdul Rahim Soomro the Secretary of Culture, Abdul Aleem Lashari the Director General of Culture Department, Shamsul Haq Memon, the Trustee of Endowment Fund Trust (EFT), Muhammad Iqbal Memon, Commissioner Karachi along with eminent writers and scholars: Noor ul Huda Shah, Mahtab Akbar Rashdi, Naseer Memon etc.
The SLF team presented a gift of Ajrak, a symbol of Sindhi culture, and flowers to the guests. Naseer Gopang, the Founder of the Festival, welcomed all the guests and audience in his speech. He said that all the languages and cultures of the country and the world are our languages and SLF is a link that had been connecting all the languages and cultures of the country. Zohaib Kaka briefed about the details and important sessions incorporated in the program. He also thanked the sponsors who cooperated the festival to happen.
Syed Sardar Ali Shah, the Minister of Culture said that he was pleased that current year’s SLF was attributed to “Mohenjo-Daro”. He added that any kind of conspiracy against SLF would be considered a crime against the nation. Concluding his speech he ensured that his department would continue to support SLF.
Muhammad Ahmed Shah the president of the Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi, said that he was overjoyed to see that SLF was happening in premises of the Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi. He added that such events should be encouraged. Shamsul Haq Memon, the member of Endowment Fund Trust, praised SLF and vowed to continue their support to SLF.
Noor ul Huda Shah, the renowned writer and intellectual said that SLF was the consciousness and dream of Sindh realized by Naseer Gopang and his young team. She said that her role in SLF was just of a volunteer, while the credit of success belonged to young team of SLF.
Mehtab Akbar Rashdi, the former secretary of Culture and writer said that the Festival was a sign of hope, there was a need to connect the old and new generation; that could be possible through SLF. She further said “We will try to keep such Festivals happening.”
Muhammad Iqbal, the Commissioner Karachi praised the Festival to be a sign of thriving nation. Naseer Memon, the writer and intellectual, said that they congratulate the festival team not formally but with a core of their hearts. He emphasized the everyone should strengthen the hands of Team SLF together.
