Despite the bombarding headlines of division and conflict, Jonathon Ooi, a Year 10 student and avid MUNer, offers a fresh perspective as to why we must remain optimistic about our future. Through his inspiring talk, he argues that our youth have the potential to progress towards a united tomorrow through tools such as Model United Nations, calling for society to embrace global citizenship and embody the 'voice of today'. Jon is a Year 10 student from The Australian International School, Singapore. He has been enthusiastically involved in co-curricular activity Model United Nations (MUN) since early 2016. He is very passionate about instilling global citizenship within fellow members of society, and believes that MUN is a wonderful tool that is invaluable to the vision of a brighter future. Recently, Jon had the opportunity of head chairing the Human Rights Council at a youth conference. When he isn’t preparing for the next conference or scouring the depths of YouTube in his ‘study time’, Jon enjoys playing tennis and binging on his favourite TV shows, from ‘Friends’ to ‘Suits’.
