At the universe's beginning, both Lord Vishnu and Brahma sought to discover the limits of Lord Shiva. To accomplish this, Vishnu transformed into a boar, or Varaha, his third avatar, and began digging to find Shiva's end. Meanwhile, Brahma took the form of a swan and ascended, searching for Shiva's beginning.

Content with his effort, Vishnu returned to Shiva and bowed respectfully, acknowledging Shiva as the embodiment of the supreme power, Brahman. However, Brahma, driven by his pride, refused to admit defeat. Determined to outshine Vishnu, Brahma, during his ascent, encountered a beautiful flower known as Ketaki. He devised a plan to elevate his status by persuading the flower to falsely claim it had witnessed Brahma reaching the beginning of Shiva. The flower agreed to deceive on Brahma's behalf.

But Shiva, being omniscient, saw through Brahma’s ruse. Angered by Brahma's dishonesty, Shiva cursed him, declaring that he would not be worshipped by anyone.
