Namita Gokhale is an award-winning writer, publisher, and festival director. She has written 20 books, including 11 works of fiction. Her recent novel, Jaipur Journals, was released in January 2020. Betrayed By Hope, a play on the tragic life of the poet Michael Madhusudan Dutt was published in December 2020. A co-founder and co-director of the Jaipur Literature Festival, Gokhale is keenly involved in curating intra-literary dialogues across languages and cultures.

Malashri Lal recently retired from her academic and administrative positions at the University of Delhi’s English department. She is a member of the English Advisory Board of the Sahitya Akademi and Bharatiya Jnanpith’s advisory committee. Her specialization is in literature, women, and gender studies. Her books include In Search of Sita: Revisiting Mythology, Tagore and the Feminine: A Journey Through Translations, and Finding Radha: The Quest for Love. Lal has been a Senior Consultant to the Ministry of Culture, a UGC nominee on Committees, and a member of international book award juries.

An award-winning designer, Oroon Das runs an independent design and strategy practice out of New Delhi and Mumbai. Working in diverse contexts ranging from literature and the arts to advocacy, planning, and policy in the cultural sector, Das’ practice is richly supplied by interdisciplinary engagement. He is also an actor, singer, and scenographer with a passion for make-believe.

Namita Gokhale and Malashri Lal’s co-authored play Betrayed by Hope follows the chequered life of poet and writer extraordinaire Michael Madhusudan Dutt. The script captures the anguish of a fractured identity as well as Dutt’s remarkable innovations in literary genres such as the epic and the sonnet In a fascinating session of readings and discussion, author and Jaipur Literature Festival's Co-Director, Namita Gokhale, writer and academic, Malashri Lal and actor and multidisciplinary artist, Oroon Das explore the paradoxes of Dutt’s life and work.
