Saturday Stories with Michael Garland

Presented monthly, Saturday Stories invites guest illustrators to lead children and their adult companions in a read-aloud workshop related to the wide range of materials and processes that illustrators use to create their picture books.

Virtually meet Michael Garland, award winning, best selling author and illustrator. His Saturday Stories workshop will feature his fantastic non-fiction picture book, We’re Not Weird: Structure and Function in the Animal Kingdom, from Holiday House Publishers. Michael will read his amazing book and talk about writing and researching the text as well as illustrating it. He will describe the woodcut/digital illustration technique which combines one of the oldest illustration techniques with the newest. He will talk about his other science/nature nonfiction books that he has illustrated. Sharing how his illustrations evolve from pencil sketch to final art, Michael will do a live animal drawing for participants to follow along. Materials suggested are graphite or charcoal pencils, an eraser and white drawing paper.

Good for all ages 5 and up.
