How To Make An American Flag Cake | CHELSWEETS

Memorial Day, Flag Day (my birthday!!), and the 4th of July are just around the corner, so I wanted to make a patriotic cake! There are a few different ways to make a surprise flag inside the cake, but I think that this way is the easiest! I used Americolor gel food coloring to color the layers and frosting, and a Wilton 1M tip to pipe the stripes onto the sides of the cake,

To make this cake, I used 1.5 batches of my favorite vanilla layer cake. I colored 3/4 of the batter red with gel food coloring, and 1/4 of the batter blue. I baked three thick red layers, and one equally thick blue layer in 8 inch pans. I baked these layers for about 40 minutes, then let them cool fully. I torted the red cake layers in half, to create 6 thin red layers. I removed the center of the blue layers using a 4 inch circle cutter.
