Ott: This is the entire “Gargoyles” body of work, a collaboration between me and Simon Posford, featuring the undoubted talents of Michele Adamson [Shpongle], Andrew Ross-Collins, owner and brains behind the estimable Interchill Records, and his son Alexander, who was about 2 years old at the time.
Michele’s vocals are obvious [and brilliant] in ‘Spacebaby’. Andrew’s are less obvious but equally brilliant: he says the word “Aeroplane” during the breakdown.
Alexander was the real star though. He was a bored baby, crawling round the room in his nappy, so we gave him a microphone and some headphones and let him hear his own voice through loads of whacky effects – which he loved. He sat making excited baby noises which we recorded and spun into the track. Hence the name and the alien sounds of a babbling infant smothered in Eventide lunacy running through it.
“Evil Do’ers” was just Simon and Me in my studio, drinking tea and smoking. Simon sat on the couch mashing up porn movie soundtracks on his laptop in a disturbing manner and sending me the results.
After an evening of that we realised we’d accidentally made some music and decided to mix it live on the desk. The mix you hear is me and Simon physically fighting over the faders, pushing each other out of the way and mouthing “tosser” at each other every time the wrong button gets pressed.
Simon played the bass on both tracks on my horrible old 3/4 scale Telecaster bass guitar.
Periodically we discuss making a Gargoyles album but there never seems to be the time.
One day, maybe.

Во время записи «Evil Do'ers» мы с Саймоном просто сидели в студии, пили чай и курили. Саймон сидел на диване, беспокойно перемешивая звуки из порнофильмов на своем ноутбуке и отправил мне результаты.
Позже вечером мы поняли, что случайно сделали какую-то музыку и решили вживую смикшировать её на пульте. Микс, который вы слышите — это я и Саймон физически боремся за фейдеры, толкаем друг друга, бормоча друг другу «tosser» (прим: злостный онанист), если была нажата не та кнопка.
Саймон сыграл басовые дорожки в обоих треках на моём ужасном старом 3/4 Телекастере.
Периодически мы обсуждаем запись альбома Gargoyles, но на него, кажется, никогда не будет времени. Когда-нибудь, может быть.
