How to Search Locations by Name and Coordinates in QGIS | Location Search using QGIS
Location Search by Name & Coordinates (Built-in Geocoder in QGIS)
1. Locate the Search Bar
• Look at the bottom-left corner of your QGIS window — that’s the Locator Bar.
• It shows a search icon with a hint like:
Type to locate (Ctrl+K)
2. Search by Location Name
• Type in any place name, e.g.:
• Kano
• University of Lagos
• Calabar
• Wait a second — matching results appear with the source tagged as nominatim.
• Click the desired result → QGIS will zoom to that location.
3. Search by Coordinates
• You can also input coordinates directly in formats like:
• 6.5244, 3.3792
• Latitude, Longitude in EPSG:4326 format (WGS 84)
• QGIS automatically recognizes and zooms to the point on the map.

• Efficiently search for any location by name using the built-in Nominatim geocoder in QGIS.
