Today was another day for pleasant distractions. My goal was to visit the well-known Mahamuni Pagoda in Mawlamyine. It has the reputation of being the largest and most beautiful pagoda in the city, and it houses one of the most sacred Buddha images in Myanmar.

However, I first had to get from my guest house to the pagoda, and my walk took me to several docks, through the busy central market, past the Mawlamyine prison, into a cafe for a cold drink, and even to a thanaka shop.
