Описание к видео North Carolina State Board of Elections news conference: Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2020

Election Day has come and gone with a record number of votes cast in Decision 2020 in North Carolina and across the country. Still, winners in some key races, including the race for the White House, have yet to be declared in the state.

President Donald Trump declared victory in North Carolina early Wednesday morning, but with thousands of provisional and absentee ballots still left to count, the race is still too close to officially call, according to election officials.

Officials with the North Carolina State Board of Elections will hold a press conference Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. to give an update on the latest ballot totals and the next steps in the election process in the state. State Board of Elections Executive Director Karen Brinson Bell will walk through the typical post-election process.

What's happening the day after the election in North Carolina?

The NCSBE is now is accepting mail-in ballots received by November 12, as long as they are postmarked by Election Day, Nov. 3.

The North Carolina State Board of Elections reported 117,000 outstanding absentee ballots Wednesday. It's still unclear how many of those ballots will be counted, as voters who requested a ballot also had the option to vote in person on Election Day.

About 1.36 million voters requested absentee by-mail ballots in North Carolina. Of those voters, election officials say more than 63% successfully returned a ballot before Election Day. Another 17% of those voters decided to cast a ballot in person during the early voting period.
