Smart city projects are harnessing the power of the Internet of Things to develop smart and sustainable solutions. So digital security is a key challenge as smart cities are increasingly under attack.

That means that's essential to bring to the Smart City Expo World Congress brilliant minds, like Shira Rubinoff to talk about cybersecurity. We talk a lot about smart cities, innovation, but what happens if something suddenly disconnects, what happens if we get attacked.

"Today is the first time, really in history, that three generations are working side by side with each other. We have the boomers, gen-x, and millennials, and you can't just shove everyone into one box and say do it my way."

We need to train people to keep ourselves updated and protected. Education is a key part of the solution.

"People need to be very careful about what they put on social media if they're putting things that they actually giving information that they shouldn't"

Is it partially what we share and where we share it? How do we protect ourselves?

"The number one thing that I tell people is to stop and pause. Could it be a phishing attempt? If you get a phone call, what you do is you look at your cards and you phone back yourself. Never answer with information on the phone ever. It's never a good idea."

Backups and collective intelligence are also strong protective tools.

"Today major security organizations understand that we have to share information, sharing of intel, sharing of understanding of what the threats are out there, so we can bind together and be proactive in our security posture in order to stop some of these incoming threats and incoming problems."
