Dr. Darryl Gebien MD, MSc is in long term recovery from opioid use disorder. He's got a fire brewing within that serves as rocket fuel impelling him to invoke change in our healthcare and criminal systems (Canada, but also worldwide). Speaking on behalf of those currently in silos in their respective communities who are helping others fighting the isolation, stigma and discrimination of addiction. I also speak for all those suffering in silence including marginalized people. Let's straighten some shit out together and fix our broken, dilapidated and hyper-judgemental health care and "correctional" systems! For we are all equal and no one merits being treated like crap.

MetaPHI is many things but to me it represents a group of loving, caring healthcare and community providers who want to help others struggling with addiction (and mental health issues too bc this too contributes to substance use and further isolation).

In my eighth year of recovery from Percocet and fentanyl use disorder, I'm finally strong enough to speak up, confident and with bold conviction. I've been through jail, prison, three inpatient rehabs and have lost a lot, yet I'm full of hope, enthusiasm and now, rocket-fuelled determination. This video marks the beginning of something special. I know it. This rage has to go somewhere. :)
