President Donald Trump formally withdrew the United States from the Tran-Pacific Partnership (TPP), a trade deal that was nearly a decade in the works. In addition to raising tariffs on imports and exiting from the World Trade Organization, Trump has stated that he plans to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). These actions have rattled countries that have strong economic ties with the United States and companies that rely on open trade. How might Trump change NAFTA? Will Trump impose high tariffs as he promised? How could these protectionist policies on trade affect businesses? In this program, speakers discuss Trump’s trade agenda and consider the possible implications of the protectionist policies for countries and businesses.
