: Questions and doubts were raised on why former Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa was buried and not cremated on Wednesday. We bring to you some of the reasons.

Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa was buried next to her mentor MG Ramachandran, as per her wish, in Marina Beach in Chennai on Tuesday evening.

But there were lot of murmurs as it why she was buried and not cremated going by the customs of her community.

Sources said Jayalalithaa had specifically asked to be buried next to MGR, her mentor, who guided her to enter politics.

Offering another explanation, a senior AIADMK member said, “Amma is the third CM to have died in office. She was also buried in a manner similar to Anna and MGR.”

There were other factors like cremation on the premises of the existing memorial would also have polluted the existing marble artwork and that the decision could also have been influenced by a set of regulations relating to coastal regulation zone norms.

Urban planners said there would have been a breach of law if a memorial was constructed. So the decision had been taken to bury her over cremation.

Whatever the reason be, Amma lies in rest next to her film and political God, MGR.
