| Ikeji Arondizuogu - Part 1 |

At last, we have arrived in the heart of Arondizuogu in Imo State, ready to dive into the amazing world of the Ikeji Masquerade Festival. 🎭✨ For years, we have wanted to be here, and this Easter, we made it happen.

Thanks to our dear friend Irokko, we are about to see the biggest Masquerade parade in Nigeria, and maybe even in all of West Africa.

The Ikeji Festival is a time when people celebrate their culture and remember the spirits of their ancestors. It’s a time of joy, where the streets are filled with music, dancing, and the incredible sight of Mmanwu (spirits) moving through the crowd, blurring the lines between humans and spirits.

We are walking to the parade in Arondizuogu, full of excitement. Ready to see the beautiful masks and costumes that tell stories of the past.

Stay tuned for Part 2!

The video shows our family and friends making our way to the center of Arondizuogu by leg, as there are no parkings available during this festival season. Also, our encounters with the first few masquerades and the different fear-mitigation strategies (running away, holding on to Daddy, covering one’s eyes or paying off the masquerade to go away 🤣)
