We love restrictions and too much choice can be crippling. The pressure of deadlines can get you into a state of flow and it that state judgement is suspended.
voolloov and I got together for two days at my parent's house while they were gone with the aim of writing and finishing a track. Normally I take ages to finish a track and get swept up in details.
On the evening of the first day we set up our pop-up studio space in the living room and collected the instruments that we wanted to use, limiting ourselves to what was available in the house: acoustic guitars, an old crackly amp from the GDR, a Behringer Model D synth, a microphone and an old Yamaha DD-14 drum machine I played as a kid. We jammed out the first chord progressions and recorded a few drafts.
On the second day we jammed more, borrowed the lyrics from German writer Franz Grillparzer and came up with the hook. We generally went with the first ideas we had and didn't question our creative output too much. This wasn't about creating the perfect piece, but about accepting whatever ideas surfaced and to go with them rather than question and doubt them.
On the third day we only had the morning to finish up the track and create interesting transitions, add some SFX and do a rough mix. We knew we wouldn't be able to mix the track in time, so we agreed that we'd finish the composition and production and send it off to our good friend Tom Le Cocq who worked his magic and really brought the track to life.
Enjoy creating, judge less and get into flow.

Lyrics
Eifersucht ist eine Leidenschaft,
die mit Eifer sucht,
was Leiden schafft.
by Franz Grillparzer
Jealousy is a passion
that eagerly seeks
what causes grief.
