As the noble leader of House Atreides, Duke Leto was guided by duty to his people and love for his family. Under his rule, the Atreides had maintained a reputation for showing mercy over malice, principle over power, and courage over fear. After his House was called to take over stewardship of the desert planet Arrakis, the Duke sought to fortify within his son all the traits of a good man and a courageous leader.
