"'It can’t be hopeless.’
Two nights ago half a dozen men and I crouched around a campfire, trying to stay warm, and one of them said those words. He’d joined the Legion only three weeks earlier, and started talking to himself after a Ghôl’s cleaver removed three fingers from his left hand. He squatted there in the dirt, repeating that sentence. If he was looking for reassurance or sympathy, he came up empty-handed, for no one else said a word...
‘Following their victory a week prior, The Men In Impeccably Immaculate Tights (25-10-1) emerged from the battlefields of the lower bracket finals as the victors. Victory would be short lived for these challengers, as they prepared to compete against and outperform the top bracket Champions.
None other than The Big Manbowski (15-9-1) whom notably handed MIIIT defeat a two weeks prior during their four match winning spree, both teams sought to face off and emerge triumphant proclaiming the title and trophy as Myth World Cup 2024 Champions to be their own.’
The men of the Legion have heard too many promises that everything will get better any day now. No one wants to hear the words spoken out loud, so I keep mine to myself, and I suspect others nurture hope as well, though they may not speak of it openly... Would we carry on, fantasizing of a future beyond war, if we hadn’t a chance? If this were so, we wouldn’t be able to carry on. Yet here we are.
It can’t be hopeless.” - The Fallen Lords Prologue
"And so, you have seen what the cup was all about. An end to all this strife, the chaos brought upon us by the Leveller and his Fallen Lords. We have come through the shadow of war and emerged into the light of understanding - and with each other's support, we can build something marvellous and new.
It is time for us to put Balor, Soulblighter, all our monsters behind us.
It is time to lay our myths to rest. " - Myth World Cup 1999
This was my POV recorded with additional music added; rightfully owned by Martin O' Donnell as well as from the original game. Always good to see the players compete for another tournament of glory and lore started long ago by Bungie's Chris Butcher, when '...heroes were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed, and their names and deeds will never be forgotten.' Shout out to waywardone who has participated as often as possible since the first MWC back in 1998.
And so, enjoy my point of view of Myth II Soulblighter during the grand finals of this summer of 2024. Additional credit goes to my teammates, all who participated in MWC and those whom those players.
