All hail Sampa the Great. The Zambian-born, Botswana-raised Queen MC stepped it up again. Paired with a vibrant african-dance music video, her new single “Final Form” aires a level of confidence reminiscent of a fearless Beyonce/Lauren Hill monster. It samples a vintage 70’s The Sylvers beat (Ghostface Killah also used it on his track “Be Easy”), giving it an old-school backbone perfect for Sampa’s swagger.

“Final Form” is an ode to evolving as an artist and as an individual, despite all the swirling negativity determined to bring us down. "I might final form in my melanin" Sampa chants, channeling her inner Kendrick, as an ode to her Zambian roots. Visually, the music video shows Sampa and other traditional Nyau African dancers gracing the actual streets of Zambia. It was important for Sampa to film the video in her birth country, “If I am truly to become the greatest version of myself, I was going to start at the most "me" I’ve ever been.”

Achieving your best self takes time, hard-work, and failure. Fuck the naysayers who don’t understand the growth process. Sampa Tembo has always been about striving to reach her highest (and final) form - it’s actually why she decided to call herself Sampa the Great in the first place. Not because she thought she was “The Great” from day one - because the name gives her a level to aspire to every day. True greatness takes time. Dropping bangers like this definitely helps.
