Cosmic neutrinos are indeed elusive particles that are produced in some of the most extreme events in the universe, such as supernovae, black holes, and active galactic nuclei. For example, in 2017, the IceCube Neutrino Observatory detected a high-energy neutrino that was later traced back to a blazar, a type of active galactic nucleus with a supermassive black hole at its center. This observation provided the first direct evidence that blazars are capable of producing high-energy cosmic rays, which are another type of subatomic particle that is difficult to study.
