Mineola, NY - Original Federal Signal Thunderbolt 1003 - 6pm Cycle: Hi-Lo - 5/15/23

Update: As of August 29, 2023, the blower on this siren has been wired properly and is no longer reverse wired. It sounds as it should now.

Update: As of June 18, 2023, the blower on this siren functions properly but is still reverse wired.

Update: As of May 19, 2023, the blower on this siren has stopped functioning. It is pending repair.

This Thunderbolt 1003 is the Mineola F.D. HQ Siren. It is located on 171 Jericho Turnpike, by Washington Avenue, in between Willis Avenue and Mineola Boulevard. The Thunderbolt is sounded for fire calls and sounds everyday at 6 PM excluding Sunday.

A few weeks ago, I noticed Mineola started to install their original thunderbolt 1003. A few days later, this is the finished product. To clarify, since most of the people watching my videos have no idea about why the siren doesn't look the same, and the whole nine yards.... The siren was repainted into CD Yellow, and the horn was fixed and no longer bends downward. The siren is also now reverse wired, and the blower seems to be either struggling or not at full RPM. It was still exciting to hear this, as I have not heard this original siren since 2020. I almost didn't think it was going to go off, as it didn't when I came here on Friday, but at 6:01 it fired up. Quite an exciting moment for me personally to experience hearing it for the first time in almost 3 years. While the reverse wired sound is really awesome sounding, I do believe the siren will be wired correctly so that it has it's original sound from decades past.

I was with my friend Christian (   / @sirensoflongisland  ) for this test, and he hasn't heard this original thunderbolt close up since 2016, he too was impressed and excited to hear this thing again.
