He explains how the tricks used in microarchitectures to make today's CPUs fast also make them vulnerable to speculative execution attacks, in Spectre and Meltdown. He also discusses enclaves, the levels of protection they really provide from data centre operators, and other new technologies to make the hardware make software more secure, not less.
