When the client changed the idea for the portrait bust of a man that he commissioned, the armature of the sculpture had to be enlarged.

In this video, you will watch how I use simple spray foam to create the body armature. The armature of a sculpture (usually for a model that will later become a bronze sculpture) is the support structure that goes under the clay or wax. Think of it as the foundation when building a house.

The armature needs to be strong enough to support not only the clay, but also the two molds that will be resting upon the artwork: the flexible rubber (usually silicon) mold, and then the supporting, rigid, mother mold. I prefer to use fiberglass and resin for the mother mold, but many foundries use the less expensive plaster.

A lot of times when I create art, I experiment with one thing or another. Here you can see one that worked, and yet, not as well as I hoped. hahah... it happens.
