Just like the rest of Maine, voters in Portland will be heading to the polls on Tuesday.

Residents in Maine’s largest city are facing several referendum questions this election, including one that would re-consider the city's rules on hazard pay.

The ballot question asks voters to consider changing the conditions of when Portland workers would get a pay bump during a state of emergency.

Currently, when the state or region declares a state of emergency, the city's minimum wage is bumped up from $15 an hour to $22.50.

If it's changed, that increase would only happen if the city itself declares a state of emergency.

Advocates for the change like Portland Mayor Mark Dion argue this decision should be made locally and wants Portland to have control over the city's minimum wage.
