Before I Go to Bed Tonight: Research-creation

The idea that making art is a form of research might be pretty easy for an art maker to grasp, but it's only been over the past 15 years or so that academia has opened its doors to it. Research-creation addresses the idea that we understand much of what we understand, not through words and numbers, but by images, motions, smells, and sounds. As a method of investigation, Alysha Farrell exposed participants to artists who already work in the realm of ecological awareness through a series of workshops. With the precedent of those workshops fresh in their minds, the young artists were asked, "So what will your art have to say?" Among dozens of responses, one artist went meta--conducting her arts-based research within the research framework that she was already implicated in. The result, Faces of the Climate Crisis, further diversifies the perspectives of youth on these issues, filtered through Audrey's courageous pencil.
