Oasis - Cigarette & Alcohol, released in 1994 as the forth single from their seminal debut album 'Definitely Maybe'

Alan McGee why famously signed Oasis to his Creation record label said the track was 'one of the greatest social statements of the past 25 years'

The video was directed by London based kiwi, Mark Zaszy... Who also directed music videos for Queen & Everything But The Girl as well as working with Oasis on the videos for their first two singles 'Shakermaker' & 'Supersonic' It certainly portrays the edgy rock & roll atmosphere that the band were promoting on that album...

Before we delve into the musical influences of Cigarettes & Alcohol, let's take a ferry ride with the Oasis lads to Amsterdam for what would have been, their first overseas gig, via the 1995 single release 'Wibbling Rivalry'

Recorded in April 1994 by John Harris, who was working for British music magazine NME, it's basically the Gallagher brothers bickering about the aforementioned ferry journey. The title is a Port-man-tow of the expression 'Sibling rivalry' and the British slang term 'wibble' referring to meaningless banter, drivel...

'T.Rex - Get It On' released in 1971 in the UK where it topped the charts, it was however renamed on it's release in the US due to possible confusion with another track to 'Bang A Gong (Get It On)' and peaked at 10 in the Billboard charts.

Marc Bolan wanted, in this track to recreate the vibe from one of his predecessors songs, Little Queenie by Chuck Berry... He said that the riff was taken from that track and even references the lyrics at the end of the song..
