In October 2020, Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant hosted a four-session virtual workshop titled "Improving Communication About Changing Lake Michigan Water Levels in the Chicago Metropolitan Area". General goals of the workshop were to 1) summarize effects of changing lake levels on southern Lake Michigan shorelines, including ability to forecast future conditions; and 2) identify products and information that could help stakeholders better respond to changing lake levels.

This video is a recording of an overview presentation from session two, introduced by Vidya Balasubramanyam. The topic is High Lake Levels and the Illinois Coast: Some Insights from Illinois Beach State Park.

From the Illinois State Geological Survey (ISGS), C.R. Mattheus spoke about ongoing efforts to better understand shoreline dynamics at Illinois Beach State Park over the past few years, including the recent rapid shift from low to high lake levels. Various products, tools, and datasets that are frequently used to understand the short-term and local impacts from high and varying lake levels were featured.
