Sakai City in Osaka is the second largest city in Osaka.
It has flourished as a commercial town since ancient times, and the old townscape still remains today.

Most of Sakai City suffered war damage, but the town near the Yamato River in the north escaped burning. The old townscape remains in the area of Kitahatago-cho where the old Kishu Kaido passes. Sakai was once the largest producer of guns in Japan, and the gunsmith's residence of the Inoue family has been designated as a city-designated tangible cultural property. The techniques of Sakai guns have been handed down continuously over the centuries, turning into bicycles and Japanese kitchen knives, and are still being used today.
