Sailing on San Francisco Bay 1929

Описание к видео Sailing on San Francisco Bay 1929

Sixteen reels of 16mm film were discovered 20+ years ago in a house about to be demolished in Santa Cruz, CA . They were recently rediscoved and donated to the California Pioneers of Santa Clara County who fat irst preserved, then digitized them for public viewing. You are currently watching, a short composite film The Pioneers generated using just a few of these precious reels. After an exhaustive forensic search for the identity of the filmmaker, we have come to the conclusion these wonderful moing images were most likely created by Hart Weaver, owner of a SF automobile dealership at this same moment in history and was also a co-founder of The City's "Saint Francis Yacht Club".

Before the construction of the Golden Gate and SF/Oakland Bay Bridges, travel between counties within the Bay area meant being "on the water", whether it be on the Napa River, Stockton Delta, or on a sailboat gazing upon the undeveloped, grassy hillsides above Tiburon. These moving images give you a quick glimpse into what world was like on and around San Francisco Bay in 1929.
