#Janata_Dal_(United) or #JD(U) swept the Patna University Students’ Union (PUSU) election, held on Saturday, by winning 4 out of 5 seats.

JD(U)'s candidate, Anand Mohan, was elected as the president of PUSU. Mohan garnered 3,710 votes and defeated Shaswat Shekhar of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) (2,517 votes) by a margin of 1,193 votes. JD(U)’s Vikramaditya Singh was elected as the vice president of the students’ union by a margin of 1,329 votes. Singh received 4,055 votes against 2,726 votes of Pratibha Mishra of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).

In addition to this, Janata Dal (United)’s Sandhya Kumari was elected as joint secretary as she won by a margin of over 2000 votes. JD(U) candidate Ravikant was elected for the post of treasurer and received 4,006 votes against ABVP candidate Vaibhav who got 3,042 votes.

Meanwhile, ABVP managed to win on one seat with its candidate, Vipul, being elected as the general secretary.

Interestingly, even though the RJD, JD(U), Congress and other parties make up the Mahagathbandhan government in Bihar, the students' wing of these political parties contested against each other in the Patna University Students’ Union election.

Nearly 24,000 students at various colleges of Patna University cast their votes on Saturday. A total of 36 candidates were in the fray. Elaborate security arrangements were also put in place ahead of the polls. However, an incident of firing and stone pelting was reported during the voting process by some people who tried to disrupt the election process.
