"Those are C5 missile launchers, manufactured in France. The missiles used to work on 24 volts, but we have changed them to be able to work on a 12 volts power supply. The missile's range is 9 kilometres and originally it was used as a air-to-surface missile. We have modified them to be surface-to-surface missiles which can be mounted on a pick up vehicle or a tripod like this one."

"As you see today, we have tried some weapons. Because as you know, we don't have enough munitions that we could use against Gadhafi's forces. So we got some ammunition but we didn't have the tools in order to use it."

STORYLINE:
Libyan rebels fighting the forces of leader Moammar Gadhafi are fashioning home made rocket launchers and modifying artillery to cope with a shortage of ammunition.
The lack of weaponry has been a problem that Libyan opposition fighters, whose cause is officially backed by the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), have had to tackle since the beginning of the revolution earlier this year.
In the town of Kabaw, a former garment factory has been converted into a workshop where fighters build weapons from scratch or by renovating pieces of artillery collected on battlefields.
The work is supervised by a rebel who used to work as an engineer, Omar, who is known as 'Rambo' among his fellow fighters.
The launchers are fashioned from piping which is welded together, and then pieces of recycled electrical cable are used to create ignition devices for the missile launchers.
On Thursday, Omar explained how weapons were being modified to better suit the land-based Libyan civil war.

On Thursday evening, the group of rebels moved the home made artillery to a cliff overlooking a valley where Gadhafi's army still controls the roads and villages below Kabaw.
The newly made C5 missile launchers, with a distance range varying from 6 to 20 kilometres, were fired at the enemy.
A 100mm tank shell captured from loyalist troops was also tested after successful reactivation of the ignition system.
Commanders, including Colonel Tarek Zambo, supervised the test firing of the new weapons.
