LEXUS Oil Change | a NO-talking episode! | GS400 shown

On this episode I will perform an oil change on my 1998 LEXUS GS400 (1UZFE). The steps are very similar for many other vehicles, so feel free to follow the basics shown here. Always consult your a reputable source for the oil, filter and crush washer specs and part numbers.

SUPPLIES (GS400)
5 qts of 5W-30 oil (Full Synthetic recommended, Castrol shown, $20 on AMZ)
1 qt of 5W-30 oil (you will use half for the GS400, recommend local auto parts store, $5)
Denso Oil Filter PN 150-2010 ($5.60 on AMZ)
Drain plug crush washer PN 90430-12031 (qty 12 for $5.60 on AMZ)
TOTAL COST: ~$32

TOOLS
Ratchet
12mm socket

OTHER
Gloves
Oil catch pan
Empty oil container(s) - up to 5.5 qts capacity may be needed
Towel(s)
Ramps/Jack/Jack Stand(s)
Funnel

BASIC STEPS
1. Remove drain plug / drain all oil into catch pan
2. Remove old crush washer from drain plug (or from pan if stuck to it)
3. Install new crush washer on drain plug
4. Replace drain plug on pan, tighten to 29 lb-ft torque (GS400)
5. Remove two fasteners to splash guard flap under oil filter
6. Bend splash guard flap back
7. Slide oil catch pan over
8. Loosen oil filter (turn just enough so it's a steady-stream drain pattern and leave it for a few minutes)
9. Remove oil filter
10. Pour new oil into new oil filter until it bubbles over from the center hole
11. Dab finger in oil, smear around seal
12. Replace oil filter (tighten fully, then back off 1/8 turn)
13. Replace two fasteners on splash shield flap
14. Add 5.3 qts of oil (remember, the filter took .2 qts already)
15. Tighten fill cap, check over everything
16. Check oil (note: if car is still up on ramps, oil on dipstick might be slightly off)
16. Start car
17. Check for leaks
