Hey everyone, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2024 Kia Niro, we're gonna be showing you how to install the CURT Trailer Hitch Receiver. Before we do that though, let's take a minute, check this out and make sure it's gonna be the right hitch for you. So right off the bat I wanna address probably the biggest question we get asked in regards to these vehicles and it seems like there's a lot of confusion around this, or uncertainty rather. But with that said, a lot of people are gonna wonder, you know, what some models is this hitch gonna work with All right, so it'll work with all of 'em actually. So if you got just the standard Niro it'll work.

If you got the Nero EV, it'll work. Or if you got the plugin hybrid EV like we do here today, it'll work with that as well. So probably your best bet or your safest bet when it comes to picking out a hitch, regardless on what submodel you have, I do think it's really convenient that this hitch is going to work with all those different submodels and I say that because this would be the hitch that I would personally choose anyway regardless of that. And one of the reasons I say that is because I think it looks good, you know, for the most part it's gonna be completely hidden. You're really just gonna see the receiver tube opening and it sits up nice and tight against the bottom of the vehicle, which definitely a good thing on a car like this, that's gonna be pretty close to the ground, you know, buy a little more ground clearance there.

And it's a class three hitch, that means it has a two inch by two inch receiver tube opening, which is a super common size and there's a ton of different accessories that are gonna work with this. It is going to use that standard 5/8 pin in clip. Keep in mind though, hitch doesn't come included with one. If you, if you need one, not a big deal, you can always grab it here at etrailer. And the safety chain openings, they are loop style easy to get to and plenty large enough to lie to use just about any size hook that your trailer might have on it.

As far as the hit's weight capacities go, it's gonna have a 200 pound maximum gross tongue weight rating and that's gonna be the amount of weight pushing down on the hitch. So that's perfect for those one and two bike racks. Maybe even carry three or four, just kind of depends on how heavy everything is. Give an example there. And as far as the maximum gross trailer weight rating goes, that's gonna be 2000 pounds over the amount of weight pulling on the hitch.

So as you weight up your trailer plus anything you might have in or on it now, I do always like to recommend, it's always a good idea just to grab your Kia's owner's manual. That way you can check in there and make sure that your Niro can handle that much weight safely. We'll go ahead and grab a couple measurements now and these will help you figure out what type of accessories are gonna work best. So if you go from the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver tube opening, taking into account the ramps or lift that were parked on here, that's gonna be about 12 1/2 inches. So if you can get an accessory that has a rise in the shank, probably be better off, you know, buy a little more ground clearance back here. And if we go from the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the rear bumper, that's gonna be about three inches, which is really good actually. So you shouldn't run into too many issues here, but if need be you can use that to help figure out exactly if any of those folding style accessories you might have can be stored in that upright position without hitting the back of your Kia. Other than that, probably your best bet when it comes to a trailer hitch for the Niro. You know, the fact that it works with your standard wands, your plugin hybrids, your full EVs, you know, you really can't go wrong there. Looks good, has that two inch by two inch opening. So a lot of stuff will work with it and that's probably why it's my favorite hitch available for the Niro. When it comes to the installation, it's not that it's really difficult, it uses some factory nuts that are already in the frame and you thread bolts in and that's how the hitch is gonna get secured. But it's just super tight, you know, there's not a ton of room to work underneath here, especially on our submodel. We have a big box here that's in our way, so takes a little time just, you know, stay focused, you should be all right and depending on what model you have, you know, your installation could just be a little bit different than ours, bu
