In this episode of Main Bhi Bharat we talk about the Ex-Tea Garden tribe of Assam. These are tribals in Assam brought here by British government in the early 19th century. Now settled here for more than two centuries, these tribes are not working in the tea gardens anymore.

The Assam government has given them the term -- Ex Tea Garden Tribes. Most of these tribes depend on agriculture for their livelihood and follow the tradition, customs and culture of their own. Few years back, a three member committee was formed to conduct a study to find out if these tribes fulfil the criteria to get Scheduled Tribe (ST) status in Assam. This committee has given its report, but these tribes are still waiting a decision from the central government on the issue.
