Horace Faith 'Black Pearl' (Official Audio)

Описание к видео Horace Faith 'Black Pearl' (Official Audio)

Official audio for Horace Faith's sublime reggae version of the Sonny James & the Checkmates Ltd.'s pop hit.

One of the most overlooked performers to emerge as a star during the reggae explosion of the late Sixties, Horace Faith began his music career in Jamaica in the early 1960s, fronting his R&B band, the Prophets and cutting a 1965 single that for Neville Foo-Loy’s Top Hat label.

in 1967, he moved to London, where he made a name on the club circuit, prior to attending his first recording sessions in the capital in two years later. After backing a number of Trojan artists in the studio, he recorded a lively version of the Blood, Sweat & Tears hit, ‘Spinning Wheel’, which saw release on the B&C label in the summer of 1969.

Soon after, he made his first solo reggae recording – a fine version of Shep & the Limelites’ doo wop hit, ‘Daddy's Home’ that sneaked out on a B-side Dandy’s Down Town label at the close of 1969.

The following year, he was spotted and signed up by Phillip Swern and Johnny Arthey, who had him record a number of songs, including the breezy ‘Help Me Help Myself’ and a stirring reggae version of ‘Black Pearl’, a song popularised the previous year by US soul band, Sonny Charles & Checkmates Ltd. The latter quickly picked up radio play and by the autumn of 1970 was comfortably sitting at number 13 in the UK pop charts.

BLACK PEARL LYRICS
(Irwin Levine, Toni Wine, Phillip Spector)

Ooh-ooh
Black pearl, precious little girl
Let me put you up where you belong
Black pearl, precious little girl
You've been in the background much too long

You've been working so hard your whole life through
Tending other people’s houses, raising up their children too
How about something for me and you?
Here in my arms you're going to reign supreme
No more serving, they've got to serve my queen
It's our turn to happiness and our day has come
Living for each other and answering to no one

Black pearl, precious little girl
Let me put you up where you belong
Black pearl, precious little girl
You've been in the background much too long

Together we stand, so brave and so tall
Created by love to love one and all
Heart-to-heart and soul-to-soul
No other one can ever take your place
My world is built around the very smile that's on your face
Never win a beauty show, no, they won't need you
But you're my Miss Phenomenal and I love you

Black pearl, precious little girl
Let me put you up where you belong, ‘cause I love you
Black pearl, precious little girl
You've been in the background much too long

Oo-oo
Black pearl, precious little girl
You've been in the background much too long
Black pearl, precious little girl
Let me put you up where you belong, ‘cause I love you

Black pearl, precious little girl
