The Security Service of Ukraine has gathered a large body of evidence and "unmasked" a serviceman of the Russian Federation's armed forces, who, together with his accomplice, shot dead nine Ukrainian prisoners of war during the battles in the Kursk region.

As the investigation established, the war crime was committed by a serviceman of the 155th Separate Brigade of the Russian Pacific Fleet, Sergei Skobelev.

In October 2024, he, as the leader of a Russian assault group, received an order to attack the positions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the Kursk region. Skobelev's unit caught one of our soldiers' groups off guard and, as a result of the battle, took nine military personnel prisoner.

The prisoners were forced to undress and lie on the ground. To calm them and prevent resistance from the Ukrainians, they were promised to be sent for exchange.

However, on the orders of his commander, Skobelev, together with his accomplice, shot all the captured Ukrainian servicemen with their service weapons. After that, the Russian assault group collected the mobile phones and radios of the dead and continued the combat operations.

A week after this, Sergei Skobelev was captured by the Ukrainian Defense Forces. Initially, he did not admit his guilt, but SBU officers gathered the necessary evidence, which forced the Russian to admit his crime.

The crime committed is a serious violation of the Geneva Conventions and other international documents that define the rules of treatment of prisoners of war. A notice of suspicion is being prepared for him. The offender will face a corresponding severe punishment.
