My approach is to simply drone over a static note and limit myself to the notes of the scale, allowing me to fully explore the sound of it.

I later added some notes and chords and replaced the droning bass note with a moving bassline that accompanies the chord movements.

This adaptation to my concept led to the following interesting insights:

By now adding a freely moving bassline (within the framework of the chosen scale), I noticed that the perception of the tonal center can shift. The bass plays a crucial role in this process, as it anchors or redefines the harmonic context. The inner ear tends to gravitate toward one of the neighboring or relative modes of the chosen scale. This creates interesting perspectives and provides insight into how each mode within the scale contains elements of the others, with their unique traits and sonic characteristics interwoven.
