First Quantum Minerals (FQM) has introduced career fairs aimed at exposing pupils to a wide range of opportunities within Zambia’s mining sector.

FQM Country Manager, Dr. GODWIN BEENE said the initiative aligns with Zambia’s need for a highly skilled workforce to support the country’s ambitious goal of producing three million tonnes of copper annually.

Dr. BEENE noted that the fairs are designed to build a strong foundation for future professionals, encouraging learners to start considering their career paths early to make meaningful contributions to national development.

Kitwe District Education Standards Officer, CATHERINE KUNDA, who graced the event, described the fair as a remarkable platform that will inspire and empower the next generation of professionals in Zambia’s mining industry.

She said that mining, as the backbone of the country’s economy, depends on skilled, educated, and motivated individuals to drive sustainable growth.

Speaking on behalf of the pupils, Monica Kabungwe expressed appreciation for the FQM Careers Fair, stating that it had given them a rare opportunity to explore various career paths in mining.

The event showcased key disciplines such as geology, engineering, metallurgy, and environmental science, allowing pupils to engage directly with industry experts.

Over 300 pupils from across the Copperbelt Province attended the Careers Fair in Kitwe, gaining valuable insights into building successful careers in the mining sector.
