Описание к видео Gauteng Sports Awards - 2018

It was truly a night to remember as hundreds gathered at the Silverstar Casino in Mogale City on Sunday evening to celebrate and award Gauteng’s top sporting talent during a night fit for the stars.

The 8th annual Gauteng Sports Awards once again lived up to its reputation of being one of the greatest and glitzy sporting events hosted in the Province. It brought together stars from across Gauteng as guests of MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Ms. Faith Mazibuko.

Protea’s cricketer Kagiso Rabada was one of the big winners on the night, as he scooped the Sportsman of the Year award for a second time in two years.

Meanwhile, Refiloe Jane, who recently signed a contract to ply her trade in Australia, walked away with the Sportswoman of the Year award following her heroics and consistent performance for Banyana Banyana.

Once all the awards had been handed out, three worthy recipients were honoured for their dedication and hard work in the sporting environment in Gauteng with the MEC Special Award.

Prof. Yoga Coopoo, Josina ‘Granny’ Tellie and Norman Hlabane stood tall as their work over their several years of service to the sporting world was recognized and celebrated.

“This was truly a spectacular evening of celebrating sporting excellence in the Gauteng Province, the home of champions. It is such a tremendous honour to have been able to recognise those who have performed so well, have shared our stories of success and have developed up and coming talent in the past year.

“Congratulations to all the winners. As we celebrate the centenary of Nelson Mandela and Albertina Sisulu, iconic revolutionaries of our nation who were avid athletes themselves and believed in the power for sport. We continue to inspire the youth through their legacies”, said MEC Mazibuko.

Prof. Yoga Coopoo, Josina ‘Granny’ Tellie and Norman Hlabane stood tall as their work over their several years of service to the sporting world was recognized and celebrated.

Launched under the theme ‘Celebrating Excellence, Inspiring the Youth’, this year’s awards ceremony celebrated the centenary of former President Nelson Mandela, as well as Albertina Sisulu, both of whom were actively and avidly involved in boxing and tennis, respectively.

As part of the evening’s entertainment, stand-out performances by the likes of Boom Shaka and Sho Majozi left guests on their feet and ensured a night for the ages.

This year’s finalists were shortlisted by a panel of independent adjudicators, represented by individuals from the media, academic and sporting fraternity. Futshane Consulting Pty (Ltd) has been appointed as the auditors to monitor this process.
