(13 May 2019) National Rally president Marine Le Pen said immigration was the "biggest concern for Europeans" ahead of the upcoming European elections.
Le Pen made the comments to a packed room at an event called "Movement for a Europe of Nations and Freedom" in Bratislava on Monday.
She added that there were "certain political parties," some in France, who were in favour of limiting immigration, but that have since said they may "opt for migration and open borders" once elected into the European Parliament.
She also said she was confident that her party would have "good results" in the election.
"I'm sure we will have seats and MP's in the European Parliament."
Meanwhile outside the event, several dozen protesters gathered with signs reading "I love Europe" and holding EU flags.
Boris Kollar, leader of the Slovakian We Are Family party, said the protesters were seen as a "new extreme."
Kollar approached the protesters outside with a container of croissants dressed with French flags where he was shouted down and called a "bastard" by one of them.
