Ganesh Chaturthi is round the corner, and is celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm throughout India! The celebrations are marked with special puja for Lord Ganesha and is offered his favourite foods and sweets. But just think, what could be better than offering him his favourite foods and sweets that you have lovingly made, and is not market bought?

And you know what’s even better? We are here to help you do this. In this recipe video, we have prepared traditional modaks without the use of dairy, guaranteeing lip-smacking modaks for you and your friends and family to relish. Surprising, isn’t it? Well, so is its taste!

To make Ukad, i.e outside wrapping:

Ingredients

1 tsp Coconut oil
1.5 cup Semolina
Any plant-based milk of your preference (we used Cashew milk)
½ cup water
½ cup sugar

Recipe

1. Take Coconut oil (You can take vegan ghee as well).
2. Add semolina to it and fry for about 1-2 minutes.
3. Add a cup of vegan milk even before it changes its colour (we have used Cashew milk).
4. Keep stirring the mixture on a medium flame.
5. When Semolina absorbs the milk, add water to it.
6. As the semolina expands and softens, add kesar.
7. Now add sugar.
8. Stir the semolina constantly until the sugar is cooked.
9. Take out the semolina in a container and let it cool.

To make the stuffing:

Ingredients

2 tsp Coconut oil
1 cup desiccated Coconut
½ cup chopped Dates, ¼ cup Cardamom powder, and ½ cup Jaggery powder
Chopped Almonds, Pumpkin seeds, Pistachios, and 1 tbsp Poppy seeds

Recipe

1. Heat the pan on a medium flame.
2. Add Coconut oil or vegan ghee to it.
3. Roast the desiccated Coconut.
4. When the Coconut turns golden brown, add chopped Dates, Cardamom powder, Jaggery powder and mix.
5. Now add chopped Almonds, Pumpkin seeds, Pistachios, and Poppy seeds.
6. Put the stuffing in a container and make modaks.

To make modaks:

Recipe

1. Take some semolina and give it a round shape.
2. Apply some Coconut oil in the mould.
3. Put the peda in the mold and press it with a spoon.
4. Put the stuffing in it.

Your modak is ready.
