Описание к видео Harnessing the Power of Education for Amazon Conservation | World Rainforest Day Summit 2022

Is Amazon conservation part of your curriculum? Is education part of your Amazon conservation plan? How can we work together to harness the power of education to inspire the next generation of rainforest defenders? Join Dr. Kelly Keena, President of the Morpho Institute, for a panel discussion exploring these questions and a follow-up networking session with fellow practitioners.

Kelly Keena, The Morpho Institute
https://morphoinstitute.org/
Dr. Keena is President of the Board at the Morpho Institute. She is also the Director of Education and Outreach for Underwriters Laboratories. Previously, she was co-founder and Principal Consultant for Blue Lotus Consulting & Evaluation, LLC. Her research focused on the quality of children’s experiences in green schoolyards and participant-generated data to understand the nature of learner experiences in environmental education.

Megan McDaniel, CONAPAC
https://www.conapac.org/
Originally from Colorado, Megan began her career as a high school science teacher. In 2019 she left teaching to pursue a Master of Science degree in Environmental Studies from Antioch University New England, emphasizing Environmental Education. She focused much of her studies on rural communities, using CONAPAC as a case study. As the new executive director, she is excited to support the rural and Indigenous communities that CONAPAC serves in Loreto, Peru. She is passionate about community-driven conservation, honoring traditional knowledge, and is motivated to ensure CONAPAC’s projects reflect both principles with genuine and authentic engagement.

Ava Goodale, The Millbrook School

Ava graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor’s of Science in natural resource management and Miami University with a Master of Arts in teaching in the biological science. She has been a teacher for over a decade, specializing in student research and place-based learning, and now works at the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies as an educator and research collaborative coordinator. Ava has participated in several research and education programs around the world, including the Galapagos, Kenya, Brazil, and Peru and had the opportunity to learn from the Kayapo and Maijuna indigenous people.

Rosanna Ruiz, The Morpho Institute
https://morphoinstitute.org/
Creating personal and meaningful experiences is what drives Ro, whether it concerns participants in the Morpho Institute’s PD programs, the many interns she mentors, the volunteers she works alongside, or the students she has taught over the years. As a natural teacher and non-stop learner, Ro recently completed her Doctorate in Educational Leadership at California State University, Fresno. Her dissertation, “Awe as a Professional Development Approach in Environmental Education,” included research on the impact of Morpho’s Educator Academy in the Amazon as a transformative PD experience for K12 educators.
