Kia says that it plans to build 11 new electric vehicles by 2026, with the first being the new 2022 EV6. While more details and specs will be revealed later in March, we have seen the electric compact SUV's sleek exterior and handsome interior design.

Although Kia hasn't said how much the 2022 EV6 will cost we do know that it will be offered in either a Standard Range and Long Range battery pack in the base model as well as a GT-Line trim that mimics the look of the top-spec GT model. Until we get a better idea of each trim's standard and optional equipment, it's difficult to choose which one is the best buy. We think it'll start at around $45,000 when it goes on sale this fall.

The base Standard Range model is available in either 168-hp rear- or 232-hp all-wheel drive configurations while the Long Range model comes in either a 225-hp rear- or 321-hp all-wheel drive setup. The GT-line model follows the same configurations as the Standard Range car but the top-dog EV6 GT only comes with all-wheel drive and its electric motors are juiced to 577-hp. Although the EV6 is based on the same platform as its forthcoming fully electric cousin, the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the Kia is the only one with the performance-oriented powertrain option. When we get a chance to test the EV6, we'll update this story with test results and driving impressions.

The Kia EV6 comes standard with a 58.0-kWh battery pack but Long Range and GT models come with a a 77.4-kWh battery pack which will provide more driving range per charge. Along with an operating voltage of 800 volts, it should be able to be charged from 5 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes when plugged into a 350-kW fast charger. We'd wager that the Kia EV will have an estimated driving range between 258 and 290 miles.

Inside, the EV6's design and layout are not as daring as the outside, but the configuration and features look more attractive and futuristic than any other current Kia model. Although the center console doesn't slide back and forth and there are no front-seat footrests like there are on the upcoming Ioniq 5, the EV6 mixes high-tech content such as a digitized dashboard with practical elements such as a floating center console with copious storage solutions and a large bin underneath it. Other touches that stand out are the two-tone, two-spoke steering wheel, the prominent start button on the center console, and the gold accents that are tastefully placed throughout the cockpit.
