The Return of the 3D Pen: A 2026 Creative Awakening
Inspiration has a funny way of surfacing when you least expect it. After sitting untouched for two years, my 3D pen finally made its way back to my workbench this week. Relearning the art of 3D drawing was a journey in itself—it is amazing how quickly that muscle memory fades without daily practice! However, after a bit of trial and error, I found my flow and successfully kicked off 2026 with a handmade, multi-dimensional greeting card. This is just the beginning of a massive creative series, but here is a deep dive into how this first project came together.
Mastering the Layered Daisy and Precision Elements
The centerpiece of this build was a textured daisy. Because the pen still held red filament from years ago, I decided to lean into the chaos and layer white filament directly on top. This created a unique, sturdy, and multi-toned floral effect. To complement the 3D elements, I utilized a DIY cutting machine to craft intricate butterflies and leaves, adding a nature-inspired aesthetic to the card base. By hand-cutting a pop-up mechanism in the center, I ensured the design literally jumps out at the viewer.
The 2026 Stencil and Embossed Finishes
To mark the new year, I utilized a printed stencil to guide my 3D pen work. Using white filament to trace and fill the numbers "2026," I achieved a raised, embossed texture that standard ink simply cannot replicate. With a palette of eight vibrant colors—ranging from deep purples to light greens—the possibilities for these 3D textures are endless.
The Evolution: From Plastic to Edible 3D Candy Art
This greeting card project has sparked an even bigger ambition. I am officially expanding into the world of 3D edible art! My next major milestone involves visiting a local shop to purchase the Polaroid 3D Candy Pen. My goal is to transition from plastic filaments to delicious, custom-sculpted candy cake toppers for my Etsy shop. I am incredibly excited to document this journey and share the transition from hobbyist crafting to professional edible design. Stay tuned—there is so much more to create!
