The mystery of the seizure and subsequent return of Donald Trump's passports . . . solved?

Over the course of less than 24 hours, we were told by former president Donald Trump that the FBI took his passports during their search of his Florida home at Mar-a-Lago, followed by some indication that the FBI was denying that they had his passports, and finally, a DOJ official indicated that they did take Trump's passports but that they were being returned. What to make of all this?

It actually makes some sense given the scope of what agents are generally authorized to seize during the execution of a search warrant. This video provides an explainer.
